Set of 4 Fine China Mugs in 'Orchard Garden' design is part of the Kew Gardens collection. The range has been created from the Library at The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, one of the world's foremost archives of rare and historically significant artwork. The Orchard Garden design really does touch the senses, with luscious elements of fruit, all taken from the original illustrations of French pomologist and artist, Pierre-Antoine Poiteau. Published in 1846, 'Pomologie Francaise' is one of the world's finest and most beautiful books on fruit ever produced. The artist, Pierre-Antoine Poiteau (1766-1854) was a french pomologist and gardener who travelled extensively throughout his life, discovering many species of plants and animals. He was a great admirer of the Redoute style and utilised the colour printing techniques he devised. The 'Pomolgie Francaise' was published by Langlois, the master of colour printing who supervised much of Redoute's most celebrated work.
